"Takuro Spirit" (takurospirit)

2018 JK Wranglers have J as the model year, and L for the Toledo plant where they’ve been built. Which is confusing, because when reading/asking for the last 8 of the VIN of a 2018 JK for reasons, it starts off with “JL.....” but its not a JL.
This 2018 JL that’s here for sales training’s ‘last eight of the VIN’ starts with JW.
Why the Toledo plant code is W now I do not know, but according to the interwebs they’re all still being built there.
Still, its confusing that a JK has JL in the VIN and a JL does not, it has JW. Until next year.

Hell my Jeep doesn’t have a “VIN”, just five digits.

IIRC they moved the Wrangler from Toledo South (plant code “L”) to Toledo North (plant code “W”.) the Liberty used to be built at Toledo North and its plant code was “W.”
the fact that early 2018MY vehicles had “JL” in the VIN was just a coincidence.

Good to know. Everything I found just said “Toledo”. No mention of north or south. I’ll keep my eyes on other ‘18 JK’s VINs, see if they change from JL to JW.

Aren’t most/all Wranglers made in Toledo? Is there another factory for them?

That’s right. JK wranglers finished out their production run in Toledo South (Supplier Park). The JL line was built in the north plant which used to be the home of the Liberty/Nitro and for a short while the Cherokee. Which I believe moved to Belvedere

Yes, to both questions. There’s two, both in Toledo.

I hope that’s the VIN you give when you get telemarketer calls about an expired warranty.

it’s similar to the Focus; the old (2008-2011) Focus was built at Wayne Assembly (VIN code “W”,) the new (2012- ) was moved to Michigan Assembly (VIN code “L”) even though both plants are on the same property.
